Bowling for Beef
On an errand in T'aichung (Taichū) 台中 this afternoon, I was pleasantly pleased to discover a branch of the Yoshinoya 吉野家 beef bowl 牛丼 restaurant chain. Of course, Yoshinoya has been doing business in T'aipei (Taihoku) 台北 for a while now, but it takes time for establishments like this one to make it down here to Hooterville. One difference between the restaurant in T'aichung and those I've eaten at in Japan is that the former is set up more like a cafeteria. The price of NT125 ($3.90/¥350) for a beef bowl, miso soup 味噌汁 and a drink seemed reasonable, but the place was relatively quiet considering it was noon.
